Leave a gift in your will
We receive no government or corporate funding and rely on our thousands of members and donors. We would like to thank all of our supporters for helping us to raise the link between population and sustainability.
One way that you can help is to leave a legacy to Population Matters to enable us to keep campaigning for future generations. Everyone should make a will to provide for loved ones, make sure one’s wishes are carried out and avoid leaving legal and financial difficulties. Making or changing a will is easy. It is always safer to take professional advice on drawing up or amending a will.
If you do plan to leave a gift to us in your will, please consider letting us know.
Before making a will, think about what assets you have and who you want to leave them to. Legacies to charities are tax free and thus reduce your inheritance tax threshold and potentially the tax on your estate. You can specify in your will a fixed amount of money or specific items (this is called pecuniary) or the whole or a share of what’s left over after any fixed legacies (this is called residuary). We particularly welcome the latter. Examples of both are set out below. If you have already made your will, you can change it by adding either of these as a codicil, attaching it to the original will.
I give free of inheritance tax £X to the Optimum Population Trust of 135 - 137 Station Road, London E4 6AG Regd. Charity No. 1114109, [for its general charitable purposes] [and I declare that the receipt of the treasurer or other proper officer for the time being shall be a sufficient discharge to my executors].
My trustees shall hold my/x share(s) of my residuary estate and the income thereof for the Optimum Population Trust of 135 - 137 Station Road, London E4 6AG Regd. Charity No.1114109, absolutely [for its general charitable purposes] [and I declare that the receipt of the treasurer or other proper officer for the time being shall be a sufficient discharge to my executors].
