The level of population is one of the key issues affecting our children’s future. Your support will help us to move population up the political and media agenda and keep it there. Your contributions enable us to carry out our research, education, campaigning, lobbying activities and events by paying for our expert associates, staff salaries, office expenses and publicity materials. Here are some of the specific areas for which we need funding.
Developing the evidence
We are publishing a series of research reports on the links between population and resources: food, water, energy, housing and so on. Volunteers play a role but we need funds to cover the managerial and organisational requirements of publishing the series.
Educating young people
We are developing material on population for use by teachers in Geography Key Stages 3 & 4 (11 – 16). We already provide access to third party and international materials but need material specifically designed for the UK on the links between population and sustainability.
We lobby both the UK government and international institutions by attending meetings and conferences and responding to consultations. As part of this, we man stalls, speak at fringe meetings and provide delegates with briefings.
Some environmental and developmental campaign groups recognise that addressing population growth would help them achieve their specific objectives, but many do not. We seek to engage with these groups and persuade them to see the bigger picture.
Individual members are forming local groups and raising the issue of population in their area, where the impact of population growth is most apparent. We support these groups with advice and materials.
