In celebration of summer and fundraisers!

Ah, summer! It’s safe to say that it has finally arrived after some delay (in the UK at least!). I am really appreciative of the glorious weather right now – writing this blog post on my lunch break out in the sunshine in my garden. Glorious summer!

With the longest, warmest days upon us now is a great time for you to get involved with a little fundraising. You can fundraise for us in any way you like – from holding a stall at a summer fete to a sponsored sporty challenge. Of course, if fundraising is not for you you could perhaps simply make a one off summer donation?

Supporter of the year

Recently awarded Population Matters’ Supporter of the Year, Alice Morley from Leeds, UK, opened our sponsorship season earlier this year by running a 10k race and raising an amazing £370 for us in the process. Alice very much enjoyed her fundraising experience:

It was a fab day, really enjoyable with lovely weather and a fantastic vibe (apart from the two hills – which were awful!).

Huge thanks to the team at PM for supporting me in the run up (pun intended!) to the 10k, and afterwards as well. Quite a few of the people who sponsored me said they hadn’t heard of PM before so hopefully they’ll continue to stay updated with PM news and maybe even become members themselves!”

We’re very grateful to Alice for fundraising for us and also for sharing our message with her family, colleagues and friends. Alice’s fundraising journey actually began much earlier in the year, at the time of International Women’s Day, when she contacted us to request information to share about Population Matters. We gladly provided campaign materials and research, and we were then delighted to hear from Alice later in the year that she would run a sponsored race for us. Thank you, Alice!

Over to you

Could you do a sponsored something for Population Matters this summer? Your fundraising can be anything at all, from taking part in an organised event like Alice’s run to holding a bake sale or craft stall. You can even request campaign materials to distribute locally.

Not feeling like you are ready to join or hold an event? In this summer heat, I can’t say I blame you! Perhaps you could refresh your summer wardrobe with some sunny summer Population Matters apparel including cooling 100% organic cotton shirts and tops? How about if you’re lucky enough to be heading off on a summer holiday in the coming weeks and you return home with unspent overseas currency, perhaps you could exchange any left over and make a small donation to your favourite charity? All donations are very greatly appreciated.

Are you open to fundraising but don’t know where to start? To find inspiration, please visit our Fundraising page to see what some of our other amazing fundraisers have been getting up to. You can also download our Fundraising Toolkit or take part in our fundraising questionnaire.

And please don’t forget, I’m here to help you in your fundraising journey in any way I can. Please drop me a line at anthony.howarth@populationmatters.org to discuss your fundraising possibilities this summer.

Wishing you a wonderful summer!
